Should I Shave My Legs for This?

Welcome to “Beauty as a Blind Woman in 21st century America.”

Our first topic is the removal of unwanted body hair.  I have always hated this chore.  I   usually cut myself while shaving and wind up with blood running down my legs.  I also struggle with doing a thorough job.  I have searched for years for the solution that works best for me.  I’m going to share my research with my readers now to save you the trouble if you’re interested in learning what I did.

First, I tried ordering one of those cheap gimmicks you see on tv that promised to buff the hair away.  It didn’t work. I didn’t waste my money on any more tv gimmicks that I couldn’t see clearly on the commercial.

Then I tried laser hair removal.  Ouch!!! I kid you not, it was ridiculous.  As the client, you’re supposed to shave all the hair from the area you want to have the laser hair removal applied before they perform the procedure. You are supposed to continue doing this for months with the promise that someday your hair will not grow back.  It all seemed really sketchy to me and like I said, it hurt like hell.  I had burns all over my legs.

Back to the drawing board.

Then I tried waxing.  As far as I’ve found; this is the method that is the most thorough, the least painful and the easiest to manage for me as a blind woman.  Let me describe this to my readers.

The technician applies a swath of hot wax to your skin that has a paper attached to it.  The technician presses the wax to your skin so as it cools the wax hardens to the hair so when it’s stripped from your skin the hair comes up with it, by the roots.  It’s very quick and feels similar to a band-aid being torn from your skin and taking the hair with it.  Quick and virtually painless.

You can have any part of your body waxed that you want.  I will tell you from personal experience that once you start waxing it is best if you maintain it on a regular basis.  I try to get in every four weeks for my waxing.  I look at it as part of my regular personal hygiene routine.

I started with my legs but over time I realized that a person can get anything waxed so I do.

I think the armpits hurt the most.  I was really shocked at what it felt like when I waxed my pits the first time.

The scariest area was the full Brazilian that I always get.  I was so afraid of how much it would hurt the first time. Honestly; it’s become a kind of addictive; waxing.  I think it’s similar to the way I’ve heard tattooing can become addictive.

Today I wax my entire body except for the top of my head, and it works well for me.  I encourage my readers to look into waxing yourselves if you are struggling with how to do a complete job on hair removal.

This is just the first post in my new series.  Please stay tuned for more beauty tips from Blind Becca. As always; let me know if you have a   topic for me to discuss that I’m not already covering.  Cheers.
